Shop Til You Drop: Glasgow’s Style Mile!

We’ll be straight with you. The Glasgow weather doesn’t have us exactly champing at the bit to traipse a mile on foot every day of the year. But the one thing that’s sure to coax us out to the city centre come rain or shine is a chance to shop along the famous Style Mile. We admit it – we’re self-confessed shop-a-holics. If you, like us, love to hear the merry ring of the cash register or watch as your newest purchased is lovingly swathed in gift wrap (even though its undoubtedly a gift to yourself – we won’t tell if you don’t!), then read on to find out which are our top locations to hit on the Mile when you’re next in Glasgow.

Princes Square Mall

This opulent-looking place isn’t your run-of-the-mill mall. Not only can you expect to see luxury high-street brands like French Connection, Ted Baker and Le Creuset, you’ll also be treated to a designer experience in the likes of Vivienne Westwood. Plus, their culinary offering is no food court. Independent and chain restaurants are housed either in the basement – where a central open area plays host to regular markets, fairs and even concerts – or on the top level of the building, where the glass roof affords diners plenty of natural light.

Shopping in Glasgow

Argyll Arcade

Looking for something sparkly to accompany you as a special question is popped? Look no further than Argyll Arcade. This 19th century shopping space’s architecture has remained almost untouched and is a haven for watch and jewelry-lovers. There are the big players of course, like Mappin & Webb, Ernest Jones and Omega, where you can pick out a wow-factor watch or necklace to mark an occasion. Smaller retailers aren’t to be ignored though, as the likes of ROX Diamonds and Thrills and Laings of Glasgow certainly make their mark, boasting experts of the highest caliber in their field – definitely worth a visit for advice and guidance ahead of a big purchase.

Buchanan Galleries

If it’s department stores like John Lewis and a mega-sized Boots you’re after, you’ll find it all under one roof at Buchanan Galleries. If you’ve walked from the Mile’s starting point – St Enoch Square – now’s the time to take a load off, so settle into a comfortable seat at Starbucks, Costa, or John Lewis’ very own café. Little ones will be dragging you along to play at the Lego store, or you can treat yourself (or the other half…!) to something for after-hours at Boux Avenue. Be sure to visit the bottom floor before leaving to pick up a Krispy Kreme donut, piping-hot pretzel from Mr Cinnamon or bubble tea at MooBoo.

After all that shopping, your weary feet and legs will need a place to call home. Check out our regular blog to see the latest deals for the Albion Hotel and enjoy the Style Mile in, well, style!
