Hop on a bus or a train to visit these Glasgow distilleries, producing world-class whisky so fine that you’ll want to taste some more!

If you’re looking to sample Scotland’s national drink at it’s many distilleries from nearby to a little further afield, Glasgow has many day trip options which are all about the good stuff, so here’s just a taster of some of these little gems!

Auchentoshan Distillery
This single malt whisky distillery is just 10 miles from the city centre, in West Dunbartonshire. The much acclaimed Auchentoshan Distillery runs excellent visitor experiences with a choice of tours – and entry prices to suit everyone – from a casual visit to the whisky connoisseur ! To go by train – walk just 3 minutes to Kelvinbridge Station and take the subway to Partick (3 stops) then take the train to Kilpatrick (22 min ride).

Glengoyne Distillery
Thought to be Scotland’s most picturesque distillery, and only 15 miles north of Glasgow city centre, Glengoyne is without doubt a charming distillery with its whitewashed walls and pretty setting amid rolling, lush green countryside. It also offers a variety of tours from the basic to the masterclass, indulging all visitors. You’ll discover a lot about whisky whilst also having fun. Just 40 mins drive from Glasgow – or if you’re going to partake in a wee dram, just take the no.10 bus which leaves from Buchanan Street Station (around an hour’s journey) and delivers you at the gates of Glengoyne! You’ll enjoy a unique experience.

Clydeside Distillery
Situated in the heart of the city and nestled on the banks of the River Clyde, it’s the first single malt distillery in Glasgow in more than 100 years since it’s opening in 2017. Expert tour guides reveal it’s history alongside dram tasting and there are various tours to choose from. This is not to be missed.

Deanston Distillery and Visitor Centre, Doune
This distillery lies on the banks of the River Teith just under 35 miles from central Glasgow; the closest train station is Dunblane. It’s also 8 miles from historic Stirling. In action since 1967, it’s building was originally an 18th century cotton mill, adding to it’s allure. At the culmination of the tour you get to sample the superb 12-year-old whisky, making the basic entry cost a steal!

Tullibardine Distillery
Founded in 1949, this distillery is located between Stirling and Perth, a drive of about 40 miles from central Glasgow; the closest train station is Gleneagles. The tour guides deliver fun and informative distillery tours and it’s location by the A9 makes it accessible for an impromptu visit. Enjoy the wee dram and chocolate experience at the end which makes it well worth the visit alone!
